On a bleak, rain-soaked January day, we met outside Barnet Court in Sarah Sackman’s constituency, intending to
photograph her on the surrounding streets. With foresight, Sarah suggested an alternative nearby location: The
Phoenix, an old cinema. It proved to be the perfect setting—an unexpected pocket of glamour away from the grey
weather outside. Warm, friendly and accommodating, she was a pleasure to photograph, and during the shoot
revealed that she had once taken to the stage as a student.
At the 2024 general election, Sarah Sackman KC was reselected as the Labour Party candidate for Finchley and Golders
Green. Sarah’s 2024 campaign focused on housing, community cohesion and the local environment, particularly for
small businesses, through proposals to cut business rates and freeze energy prices. She also emphasised investment in
skills and targeted grants to create employment opportunities for unemployed young people. In public services, she
called for increased NHS funding, including a new system of care for older people, and for more police officers to
return to neighbourhood policing.
Called to the Bar in 2008, Sackman practised at Francis Taylor Building and Matrix Chambers, specialising in public,
election, planning, environmental and rating law. She served as Solicitor General from July to December 2024 and was
subsequently appointed Minister of State at the Ministry of Justice. In the Ministry of Justice she has sought to create a
system with victims in mind, introducing reforms to create a modern and fair justice system fit for the 21st century.
Sackman, representing a diverse constituency, has been a champion of community cohesion and interfaith projects.
She is known for "tirelessly calling out antisemitism and Islamophobia".

It was a pleasure to meet and photograph Helena, the Labour and Co-operative MP for Hastings and Rye
since the 2024 General Election, on a picturesque April day.
Despite the weather problems earlier in the year we held out for Hastings’ beach and promenade as the
perfect backdrop for our portrait.
Helena interests focus on social mobility and water pollution. Born and raised in East Sussex, she
transitioned from a career in international development with Save the Children and a role as a Director at
Unilever to politics. Her work with Save the Children took her to refugee camps and war zones, including
Bangladesh and Yemen, where she contributed to protecting vulnerable children globally.
In her political career, Helena has served on the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee and
currently acts as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Chancellor of the Exchequer. She holds a degree in
History and Politics from St Hilda’s College, Oxford University. During the Covid pandemic, Helena
volunteered as a vaccinator in Hastings, aiding in the Covid-19 vaccine rollout.
